In today's economy some people find it very difficult to find work, especially if you're changing careers. The company or line of work you wish to be in always has a job opening somewhere in the company. Don't just ask personnel, as they're typically the last to know and for them it's all about the bottom dollar. Their job is to 'make the financial transaction' a bottom line so the company makes a profit. Find someone who works for the company and start a conversation, find out whose in charge of the department you want to be in, be willing to start a position that you can work your way up. Another words think outside the box and be flexible.
