Recycling cardboard egg containers are a great way to start seeds. Once the sapling has grown large enough to transplant, cut each egg holder off. If the sapling is not large enough to place in the ground, transplant into a plastic storage container until ready for either ground or larger container. Dollar Tree carries plastic food storage containers for $1 which come bundled in quantities of 2-3 each. You can even start a small greenhouse with the storage containers by placing the lid on the container until sapling appears.
