Litter box, kitty litter, heavy duty plastic bags, a few film canisters with rice or jingle ball inside, paper bags (yes those brown things) or paper shopping bags, choose the right food for kitty based on their age (not all new household members are kittens), water pistol or water bottle with good range. Also house-proof by checking to see if you have any poisonous to cat plants, keep detergents and chemicals hidden and remove any small items kitty could chew, swallow or choke on. Relocate anything breakable as until you train kitty not to jump on certain things.
